COMPACT

Displays or alters the compression of files on NTFS partitions.


Syntax

COMPACT /?

COMPACT [/C | /U] [/S[:dir]] [/A] [/I] [/F] [/Q] [path][filename [...]]

Display the compression state of the current directory and any files it contains:

COMPACT


Parameters
path ( filename NT2000)
Specifies a pattern, file, or directory. You may use multiple filenames and wildcards. You must put spaces between multiple parameters.

Switches
/? (NTXP)
Display help.
/A (NT2000)
Displays files with the hidden or system attributes. These files are omitted by default.
/C (NT2000)
Compresses the specified files. Directories will be marked so that files added afterward will be compressed.
/F (NT2000)
Forces the compress operation on all specified files, even those which are already compressed. Already-compressed files are skipped by default.
/I (NT2000)
Continues performing the specified operation even after errors have occurred. Stops when an error is encountered by default.
/Q (NT2000)
Reports only the most essential information.
/S[:dir] (NT2000)
Performs the specified operation on files in the given directory and all subdirectories. Current directory is the default.
/U (NT2000)
Uncompresses the specified files. Directories will be marked so that files added afterward will not be compressed.
