NET STOP

Stopping a service cancels any network connections the service is using. Also, some services are dependent on others. Stopping one service can stop others.

Services cannot be stopped from a command prompt within Windows.


Syntax

NET HELP STOP

NET STOP [BASIC | NWREDIR | WORKSTATION | NETBEUI | NWLINK] [/YES]

NET STOP service

To stop the workgroup redirector, type:

NET STOP

(This breaks all your connections to shared resources and removes the NET commands from your computer's memory).


Parameters
BASIC (v7.00)
Stops the basic redirector.
NETBEUI (v7.00)
Stops the NetBIOS interface.
NWLINK (v7.00)
Stops the IPX/SPX-compatible interface.
NWREDIR (v7.00)
Stops the Microsoft Novell(R) compatible redirector.
service (NT3.5)
One of:

These services are available only on Windows Server:

WORKSTATION (v7.00)
Stops the default redirector.

Switches
/YES (v7.00)
Carries out the command without first prompting you to provide information or confirm actions.

Notes

You must have administrative rights to stop the Server service.

The Eventlog service cannot be stopped.
